3D modeling, boxing in

At this point I had already finished the enviroments that I had made in 3D studio max, what I then wanted/needed to do was box them in as it were so that what ever i was going to show off in my enviroments that nobody could see out of the enviroments. For boxing off the enviroments I used a plane to block off the open areas, this was very useful because as well as being a good object to block of the enviroments I could put an image on it to make it look like there was something there any way.

The most difficult part of this and I can't stress this enough was getting the right image itself because it was never loook right no matter what I did to it, the problem was trying to aline parts of the image with parts of the enviroment and whenever i tried to sort it out the image itself never look right because it was strech to far and it didn't match the image to the enviroment that well but any I tried to manage with what I had and I tried to make it look as best as I could.

The image above is part of the finished design of hirst lock, for the background i went for mid after-noon orange sky, to try box in the enviroment I used a combinations of trees and planes, as you can see on this image I used the trees to try and block off the side of the enviroments as this enviroment is pritty much a open enviroment. Using these types of trees from 3D studio max proved to cause problems as it caused it to slow down, lag and at sometime crash but it never stop me completing the job.

The image above shows a plane with an image on it this was one of my tactics into boxing my enviroment in, I first draw out a plane as big as camera would only see then I inserted an image from the inter-web on to that plane and tried to match that parts of the image to the enviroment so it gave off the illusion of that there was somthing there rather then being just a wide open enviroment.

On this image here is a wide shot of my enviroment and that there is another plane on the oppisite side of the enviroment that blocks off the oppisite side view, this is what we will probably be showing off in the video or mainly the inside parts of the enviroment.

The image above here is an image of my shipley wharf canal enviroment, I used a plane to block off the rest of the open area and placed an image of a merer extention of the canal. As with the other plane and image placing this to had the same obsicals.

This image is an image of whats on the oppisite side of the buildings in shipley wharf (the road), (other side of the canal), for the background i went with a nice blue crisp clear sky. In front is a plane with the image of whats continuing down this road, to the right of the image, orignaly it didn't have those buildings there, it was all wide open so what I did to solve that problem was copied one of the buildings from the left and dragged it to the right and then made more copies down the road to block the view of the open space, as a useful object to use to block off the view the objects itself proved to make the enviroment more realistic because there were buildings there orignaly.

Here is an open view of the entire enviroment, as you can see I,ve used a combination of trees, planes and buildings to block of the bits that i don't want to be seen, the plan of viewing this enviroment is to go down the road throught the red building and back up the canal.

This is a piture of the finished building of the united reformed church in saltaire, as you can see in this picture I have been messing around with the lighting on this model, with the designed lamps in this enviroment  I added lights on to them to give it more of a realistic feature, with this unique feature i made the entire enviroment look night time and while messing around with this feature I discovered that you can get a light misty fog affect which helps if you want to give it a spooky feature, with the lamps done I was shown what you can do and what things look like when you increase the lighting which is the end result of the picture above.
This enviroment is an open enviroment which basically means that Its gonna be hard to block off the open view but I was able to block off some of it by molding the landscape as close as possible to the actual enviroment and with some clever camera positioning I will be able to show off the bits I want to show off.
